The premiere of Marvel’s latest Disney+ series has fans scouring the background for clues, with eagle-eyed viewers convinced that VisionQuest episode 1 Billy Maximoff hints at a major family reunion. Paul Bettany has officially returned as The Vision in the standalone series, which kicked off its run with a two-episode premiere. While White Vision wrestles with identity issues alongside AI companions like Jarvis, Edith, and Ultron, the community believes another familiar face was quietly tucked into the background.
Following the events of the WandaVision trilogy, the debut episode turns its attention to Wanda and Vision’s son, Tommy. Now inhabiting the body of a human portrayed by Ruaridh Mollica, Tommy is operating as a pickpocket in London. However, observant watchers noticed a familiar-looking figure with a distinct haircut appearing twice in the crowd—first as Tommy pulls off a heist, and later when he meets up with his accomplice, Lisa, in a completely different spot.
Naturally, the gaming and streaming community has taken to social media to debate whether this visual cameo is a clever Easter Egg, a continuity slip, or the subtle introduction of Joe Locke’s Wiccan keeping tabs on his brother. Speculation about the magic-wielding hero’s return has circulated heavily leading up to the show’s premiere, especially since the series arrives just ahead of Avengers: Doomsday.
Adding fuel to the fire, Tommy’s actor, Mollica, seemingly let slip during an Entertainment Tonight interview that he and Locke filmed scenes together for the MCU project. Reflecting on their time working together, the actor mentioned shooting their Marvel material prior to starring in a West End play together, noting they had a “big secret that slowly started to leak.”
Whether this background sighting is definitive proof of Wiccan’s undercover surveillance remains unconfirmed, but viewers will have plenty of time to look for more clues as the series continues its rollout. Weekly episodes will air ahead of the final chapter, Episode 8: “Forever,” scheduled to drop on November 10.
