Rockstar Games is reportedly planning to bring its upcoming blockbuster GTA 6 to PC during the first quarter of 2027. According to a report by GamesBeat, which cited four anonymous sources close to the matter, the highly anticipated computer port could arrive mere months after the game drops on consoles.

For PC enthusiasts, a Q1 2027 window represents a remarkably swift turnaround compared to previous Rockstar titles. When GTA 5 originally debuted, desktop players had to wait nearly two years for a computer port to materialise. If this current reporting holds true, the wait this time around will be significantly shorter following the scheduled console launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S on November 19, 2026. Neither Rockstar nor its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has officially commented on the report.

What a Q1 2027 GTA 6 PC Release Means for Players

While Rockstar has kept tight-lipped about official platform rollout schedules beyond consoles, industry chatter suggests the early 2027 computer window could coincide with the debut of the game’s multiplayer suite. While Rockstar has not yet formally detailed the next-generation multiplayer experience, Twitch boss Dan Clancy recently stated that the follow-up to GTA Online is expected to launch next year.

Historically, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has remained coy when pressed about desktop versions of the studio’s flagships. Speaking to Bloomberg back in May, Zelnick defended the company’s traditional console-first strategy. He explained that Rockstar always targets consoles initially to best serve its core consumer base first, noting that failing to prioritize that primary audience can compromise the wider rollout.

Open Platform or Closed Ecosystem?

Even so, leadership has acknowledged shifting industry tides. During a CNBC Squawk Box appearance, Zelnick noted that the video game business is increasingly trending toward open platforms rather than closed ecosystems. Back in 2024, when asked directly whether the absence of a PC version was set in stone, Zelnick offered a characteristically playful response: “The lack of an announcement is not something that could be set in stone as near as I could tell, because the only thing that happens after the lack of an announcement is an announcement.”

Past Rockstar heavyweights like Red Dead Redemption 2, Max Payne 3, and GTA 5 eventually transitioned to desktop platforms with massive success, fueled heavily by dedicated communities and active role-play servers. While Rockstar has yet to detail definitive frame-rate and resolution targets for console hardware, desktop players eyeing a potential 2027 port will naturally anticipate enhanced performance scaling—provided their rigs have the horsepower to run it.
