The Elden Ring Movie Budget Reported

Alex Garland’s live-action Elden Ring movie is shaping up to be a massive financial undertaking for A24, with a reported budget reaching nearly $200 million. According to a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the production, the massive adaptation of FromSoftware and George R.R. Martin’s acclaimed 2022 RPG shatters previous financial boundaries for the arthouse-focused studio.

From Modest to Blockbuster Budgets!

For a company renowned over the last 14 years for delivering critically acclaimed projects on modest budgets, a $200 million price tag represents an unprecedented leap into blockbuster territory. Should the reported figures prove accurate, the film’s budget places it alongside major studio tentpoles such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Jurassic World Rebirth.

This massive expenditure dwarfs A24’s previous high-water marks. Timothée Chalamet’s sports drama Marty Supreme previously made headlines for its $70 million budget, while Garland’s own directorial effort Civil War and Dwayne Johnson’s The Smashing Machine carried price tags around the $50 million mark. Nothing in the studio’s catalog comes close to this first major foray into video game adaptations.

While exact details on what is driving the costs remain scarce ahead of the film’s scheduled March 3, 2028 premiere, production on the project has already experienced shifting expectations. Earlier estimates pegged the live-action fantasy project at just over $100 million, indicating that initial rumors may have missed the mark or that production costs grew during filming, which officially wrapped in July.

Despite the lack of official trailers, the production has steadily generated buzz through its stacked cast and glimpses of the set. The film features Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Nick Offerman, Havana Rose Liu, and Dark Souls superfan Peter Serafinowicz. Early production photos and subsequent leaks have also offered fans a look at what appear to be faithful recreations of iconic in-game locations.

Will the movie be on par with the Elden Ring Game ?
