More than two decades after Azeroth first opened its gates and redefined the MMORPG landscape, Blizzard Entertainment is breathing fresh life into its legendary fantasy universe. World of Warcraft Forever arrives worldwide on November 4, positioning itself as a brand-new pillar for the franchise alongside the Modern and Classic versions of the game. For enthusiast gamers eager to revisit the roots of Azeroth without giving up modern mechanical depth, this upcoming release aims to capture the classic feel while delivering a massive wave of fresh content.

Retaining the Classic Soul While Expanding Azeroth
Blizzard is taking a delicate approach to preservation, keeping original character models and spell animations intact while utilizing the nostalgic level 60 cap. The slower, more deliberate leveling pace that made every single milestone feel earned in the early days of the genre is back in full force. Beneath that familiar nostalgic exterior, however, sits a heavily polished experience featuring upgraded core systems, itemization, user interfaces, and world graphics.
The visual overhaul introduces modern lighting enhancements while strictly respecting the iconic original art style. Players can look forward to global illumination, dynamic volumetric fog, sun rays, flowing water that realistically catches environmental light, terrain-cast shadows, and stark lighting shifts as the in-game day progresses.
Beyond the graphical glow-up, the expansion introduces a massive influx of content, including brand-new zones, over 1,000 fresh quests, new dungeons, and intense 10- and 20-player raids. Familiar regions have also been injected with unexpected surprises, ensuring even veteran explorers will find uncharted territory.
New Races, Expanded Classes, and the Legacy System
A major highlight of the release is Zephras Isle, a turbulent starting zone thrown into crisis after its protective air spirits vanished, leaving its population fractured. This zone serves as the home for the brand-new elven Skyborne playable race. Skyborne characters can choose either the Horde or the Alliance, with their faction choice determining whether they gain access to the Shaman or Mage classes. Additionally, Skyborne of any faction can roll as Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, or Druids, complete with exclusive new druid forms.
Existing races are also breaking traditional boundaries. Players can now create a Dwarf Shaman, Undead Paladin, Human Hunter, Gnome Priest, Troll Warlock, or Orc Mage.
To encourage players to experiment with these newly unlocked class combinations and level up alternative characters, Blizzard is introducing the Legacy System. This account-wide progression mechanic rewards players with Legacy Points for completing challenging tasks such as hitting level milestones, ranking up in PvP, exploring maps, and conquering dungeon groups. Points are pooled across your entire roster and can be spent across three unique talent trees focused on Professions, Adventure, and Resourcefulness. Upgrades range from boosting rare material gathering odds to regaining resources from kills and stripping away reagent requirements from class abilities.
While characters can earn up to 29 Legacy Points, they are capped at spending 16 per character. This design choice ensures players can reap the benefits without feeling forced to manage an army of alts, though the shared pool naturally incentivises branching out.
Players won’t need a separate subscription for this pc game to dive into the action; World of Warcraft Forever is available to pre-purchase now and is fully accessible with a standard base game subscription or active Game Time.
To celebrate the upcoming launch, Blizzard is also hosting a live escape game competition in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Entitled WoW: Forever presents Escape Together, the event pits fan-favorite streamers and cosplayers representing the Horde and Alliance against a series of head-to-head challenges, culminating in a tense escape room experience inspired by the iconic Scarlet Monastery. Fans can catch the broadcast on Friday, October 23, at 10 a.m. PDT on the official Warcraft Twitch channel to see which faction claims ultimate victory.
