Housemarque has officially launched the Saros Zenith update, bringing a massive suite of new features, accessibility options, and replayability enhancements to owners of the acclaimed action title at no additional charge. Released today, October 19, the fresh update aims to open up Carcosa’s demanding bullet ballet combat to a wider audience while throwing down serious new gauntlets for veteran players looking to push their skills to the absolute limit.
For players diving into the action or returning to tackle tougher challenges, the development team focused on two core pillars: lowering barriers to entry without compromising the intense combat design, and expanding endgame depth. Whether you are struggling to keep track of hostile incoming fire or hunting for top spots on global leaderboards, there is plenty to dig into.
Accessibility Meets Bullet Ballet in the Saros Zenith Update
Housemarque is well-known for crafting intense, challenging experiences, and the studio was careful not to blunt the edge of Saros by simply stripping away enemy projectiles. Instead, the team introduced smart accessibility settings that give players more control over how they handle chaotic encounters.
The standout addition for newcomers or players needing a slight edge is the new “Slow Game Speed” setting. Enabling this option slows down the overall action, allowing players more time to read hostile attack telegraphs, track incoming bullets, and execute precise dodges, jumps, shields, or parries. Players retain full control over the speed reduction and can choose whether the effect triggers automatically during frantic combat or gets toggled manually.
Complementing this is the new “Auto-fire” option, which automatically triggers your weapon when aiming directly at a hostile target. Designed to alleviate hand strain from prolonged button holding, the feature frees up mental focus for crucial movement mechanics like dashing. However, Housemarque emphasizes that reloading remains manual, ensuring that high-skill elements and precise timing are never automated away. These tools work in tandem with existing motion sensor aiming functionality and complete button remapping settings.

Carcosan Modifiers and Eclipse Layers
Beyond accessibility, the update expands the world of Carcosa with major endgame additions. The Carcosan Modifier system gains 10 new Protection Modifiers designed to make runs more forgiving, alongside 10 new Trial Modifiers crafted to ramp up the difficulty. One notable Protection is the “Corruption Melee Enhancement,” which turns the hazardous Corruption mechanic—normally eating away at maximum Integrity—into a high-risk, high-reward power source that unleashes devastating melee damage.
These modifiers feed directly into the brand-new New Game+ mode called “Eclipse Layers.” After clearing the base game, players unlock mysterious new nodes on the Armor Matrix at Passage, granting access to more intense alternate rulesets. To enter an Eclipse Layer, players must hit a specific threshold of active Trial Modifiers, mixing and matching from 25 different options to create custom, highly tactical challenges.
Players brave enough to load up on difficult Trial Modifiers will earn more than just bragging rights. During Eclipse Layers, Arjun dons an evolving golden crown and glowing armor that grows larger as your modifier balance increases. This crown also acts as the key required to perceive 12 ancient “Visions” etched into stone across Carcosa, revealing additional lore for dedicated explorers.
Test Your Skills in Overlord Rush
For those looking for bite-sized combat trials or fierce competitive showdowns, the new Overlord Rush mode delivers intense training simulations accessible via the Primary Unit in Passage. Players race to dispatch powerful Overlords from the campaign across multiple curated “Sets.”
While the “Incursion” and “Ascension” Sets offer quick three-boss gauntlets completable in roughly 10 minutes, the ultimate test awaits in “Totality,” which strings together all eight Overlords from across Carcosa in a single continuous battle. Global leaderboards feature weapon-specific filters, letting players prove their mastery with their favorite primary armaments against friends and competitors worldwide.
The Saros Zenith update is live now on PlayStation consoles. Note: An internet connection and a PlayStation account are required for online features.
